Not Seawatching

Because I do other things birdy than lurk at the Nose.

So, a trip up to the Exe for the tide, to maybe see some waders and so on.

This was successful, as you can see if you look at this lovely pic of the new look Bowling Green;

Looks pretty from the air.

Let's have a closer look at that spit in the middle, shall we?

Lots of birdies

I may have been looking at one in particular here, so let's also send out gaze to other bits of that landscape;

Odd one out?

Great against pebbles, not so much against mud

Not every bird was shy and reticent, it must be said. Some were.. Positively showy, even;

You gotta put your best foot forward

Egrets, I've seen a few

Though none as bold as this one [well, barring a Certain Green Job, one time.. :) ]

Eventually, the tide got bored and wandered off, and I relocated a time or three in search of this and that. Now, before you start worrying, there will be no horrible distant Osprey shots like in the last couple of years. I've resolved no more unless they're.... Ok, not as good as those ones from the Backwater, but at least unambiguous. Fair?

I shall instead show you these;

The classic small wader

Comparison;
Curlew Sandpiper and Dunlin

I'm quite pleased with that one. It's not a perfect mirror pose, but it's close enough. :)

Here's another half-decent shot;

Mr. K

Also of interest;

Goldfinches

Common Seal

 Not quite a blob.

Eventually, the duality of Curlew Sands was discovered, though I had to wait until they were foraging off the Goatwalk - and get rained on - to do so.

And now, before you forget where you are and start to enjoy this... Here's a Backward-level record shot, taken from the one gap in the hedge in the lane where you can sort of see the huge areas of dead ground created by the BG landscaping..

Spot The Green Sand

Two of them, plus a Common, were hiding back there. The Greenshanks and the Ruff* piled in [you can see a few 'shanks behind the 'wits and gulls - though a bit burnt out, I'm afraid] closer to after being flushed by

Marshie [don't expand, please..]

Laid back relaxing birding.

Coming next.. More of That Stuff at That Place. Oh dear...

Be Seeing You..

[[*Did I not mention the Ruff? Juvenile female, hiding on the left for a while, and very reticent about showing, the naughty thing..]]
