Getting Moorish again..
Firstly, only semi-Moor, as this was a visit to Hembury Castle. Not been up the top [ie. the actual hillfort, rather than the riverside woods where most people go] for an age, and as I had the chance to nip out for lunch, I went there. I was expecting to get repeatedly soaked, but in fact aside from a few drops on the windscreen en route, it was blazing sunshine!
I sat myself down on the motte [Hembury is one of those hillforts which was castled by the Normans - though whether during the invasion or later during the Anarchy, the info board didn't know {?}] and waited to see what flew by.
Turned out this was largely Mistle Thrushes!

Apparently, there's also some woods there or something;
Into the woods..
What there definitely are are some serious fungi;
That is a car tyre, btw
So this is either a very fast grower, or really tough...
Onwards and Moorwards.
Only the first of three, due to space;
It had been too long since I'd taken a toddle with the Folks, and we were determined to get out. So, we defied the weather and went for a wander along the tramways by the Walkham valley. The weather was rather offended by our temerity, and tried its best to rain at us sideways. We were undaunted - and out of the strongest of it - and so it gave up and got quite sunny. :)
No spectacular birds, or aggregations of Mipits [the bit between Foggintor and Swelltor quarries is very good for winter Mipit flocks when they form], but never mind, it was a nice amble. When it wasn't raining. And Barky McBarkface couldn't see any sheep.. [So about 30 mins total...]
