A Bit Moor.

Oh stop groaning, you knew that one was coming...

Anyways, somehow dragging myself out of bed on Sunday morning - close-run thing - at a time early enough to be useful, I headed off to try the walk I had planned to do the week before.

The weather was... Well, rather clement, actually!

Shock, horror, and so on.

Wheatear!!

And Wheatears were there!

At least 14, probably a few more, and there was singing and it was Good.

"Look at my beautiful tail!"

Ok, not so much.
Actually alarming due to passing raptor...

This one, too.

Interesting behaviour [note how they're both looking up]. Though why they'd make themselves more obvious [unless to draw attention away from nest site?*] is a ponder.

Sheer weight of numbers
eventually led to a
half-decent picture!

The only non-Buzzard
to come within range

Not just skywatching, I wandered by a few old friends;

Hingston Hill Row...

...and Circle

The Drizzlecombe Three,
Giant's Bowl and settlement

I've put a lot of close ups [which really don't do justice etc. etc.] of those big'uns up on here in times past, so let us move on to a nearby 'new to the blog' site;

Plym Steps

And a new shot to the blog,

View from the Potato Cave
:)

Something very new; new species for the blog!

Observe;

Orange Mosscap

It was very warm and almost toasty in the sun and out of the wind, though said wind was a NW and a touch toothsome...

Pound nr Hartor Tors

Taken in the sunshine [and feeling rather warm] between bouts of grey cloud [looks quite nifty, doesn't it? :) ]

More birdies;

By which I mean Wheatears

"Hey, where'd the sunshine go??"

"Don't ask me"

"Over here!"

"Here too"

That Mipit's sat on this;

Kist

Extra glossy Raven

Cuckoo-less Rock, view of
Sheeeepstor, Burrator Res., Leather Tor

Also a good day looking down, as on the shoulder of a minor valley on the flank of Drizzlecombe, I found these;

Five!!

Top two were heated, bottom two very dark, middle right, top and lower left all showed worked edges. And all found in one wash, four within 1m square! Also there a small flint core, possibly discarded due to the big flaw in the middle of it.

Wowzer!

A little more recent,

Leat overspill

How do you stop a leat from getting damaged by high/surging water levels? With a few of these. Note the shallow V formed by two long pieces of granite, a level carefully set.

Never too many Wheatears!

It was all rather good.

Be Seeing You...

[[* Not nesting yet {I think} but definitely on territory and singing when not vexed by the hordes of Buzzards and Ravens passing overhead! ]]
