A Big Day Out

Sometimes people surprise you.

Such as when the Folks were sufficiently impressed by my tales of the far end of cornywall to decide that they'd like a look themselves.

So it was that on Sunday we loaded the LBD up and went our way all the way to Porthgwarra!

It was a little windy and overcast at first, but the sun came out for us, which was lovely. Then as we went for a post-lunch wander towards Land's End, the rain decided to say Hi...

Tut.

So we cut things short and moved to the 'If it rains' location of Hayle, where it decided to brighten up again. Hmm.

Recalcitrant weather aside, though, it was quite fun, and Mum saw her first proper Choughs, which was even better. Ok, they flew past under grey skies and didn't strike tumbling poses in the sunshine [which was what I'd booked, so no tip for them!], but still. A Chough is a Chough.

We even managed to walk the length of the 60' Cover, where I found exactly the same number of Chiffchaffs as I'd found at the Nose the day before. Fewer Richard's Pipits at HN, though [alas]. :D

Our time at Hayle was minus Phalarope and while Mipits and alba Wags were numerous - with a Whimbrel the star bird, it seemed - it was a little quieter than I'd have liked. Oh well; a roof is a roof, after all.

View from Gwennap Head,
looking past Hella Point towards Lizard Point

Gwennap gave more shelter than Hella from the northwest-ish wind, and we spent a fair time enjoying the view and hoping for a flyby Chough.

The Wolf Rock

There was some passage, despite the weather, plus the odd gathering of feeding seabirds [mostly Gannets] but no cetaceans seen, unfortunately. Reasonable numbers of Razorbills were heading west, with a surprise Stormie [you can never predict them].

Nice 1cy LBB

The odd gull about, too :)

That's a big hole...

Grannit does make nice scenery

Longships

Itsa Kestrel

A long day but a good one.

Be Seeing You...
