Not So Little, Not So Black

The Folks have added a new furry friend to their household, feeling the need for a deranged hound to enliven their lives.

Isn't he cute?

"So, about those bixits...?"

We all went for a wander about Fernworthy on Sunday and the often-shining Sun made up, more or less, for the toothy East wind. Unfortunately, those pesky loggers have been VERY busy and many of the tracks are a bit on the muddy side. Fortunately, it was dry enough for us not to vanish up to our waists, so we got about ok.

We had a nice amble and even saw a few birdies.

Only a few though, as the Res. in particular was nigh birdless. Not even a Mallard! One Moorhen heard, two Grey Herons [one flying over] seen, that's it. No, not even a gull while we were there...

The Plantation was busier, however, with much noisy to-ing and fro-ing. Mostly way way up in the tops and usually up-Sun, too [because little birdies can be very naughty]. I tried my best, though new camera seems to have even naughtier ideas about exposure on backlit subjects...

Crossbill

Crossbills

Hmm, time to screw with the exposure, I think...

Count the Crossbills!

There are seven in this photo. How do I know? Because that's how many flew out right after I took it! But how many of them can you see??

Siskin

Siskin easily the most numerous bird species on the day.

Also of note;

David Bellamy voice:
"And here we are, in
this lush temperate rainforest"

Close up view;

Just a few species present.!

Mossworthy, mayhaps?

:D

I also need to include this;

"I think they went
thattaway..."

A few points; That slope is the sunny side of 45° up towards the top, Marley already knows never to turn your back on a Backward Birder with a camera [:D], Just look at those trees! far better grown in this country than imported, eh? and valuable nesting and moss-sheltering habitat* :P

Ahem.

Oh, and,

Fernworthy Circle

Because.
:)

Be Seeing You...

[[* Yes, yes, native Oak rainforest is great, but you can't have it everywhere.]]
