Patch Flower Fest 2 ["What'll we do tonight, Brain?"]

In which we mess about with the Pinkies.

o;)

Ahem.

So, assorted small pink geraniums are to be found hereabouts, and they do sort of resemble each other a bit. They also tend to have a lot of similar names involving bits of birds..
The following contains repetitions and comparisons, for, well, comparative and illustrative purposes. Also because I'm still not exactly brilliant at ID without book in hand, so I've taken more repetitions than I'd like and managed to miss ones I know are out there. Oh well, it's not like this is an actual guide or anything! :)

Observe;

Herb Robert
The Buzzard of little pink flowers

Shining Cranesbill

Common Storksbill
[you see where the name comes from..]

Hedgerow Cranesbill

A 'pale cleft-petalled' type. Compare with the others below. [No, not next to each other; that would make sense!] While there are flower differences, the leaves are the best way to tell them apart.

Shining Cranesbill
[showing variation]

Shining Cranesbill
[seed heads more like Stiltsbill if you ask me]

Herb Robert
[variation]

Shining vs. Round-leaved Cranesbill

Small-flowered Cranesbill

Real macro shot, this! Compare the flower to the very similar Dovesfoot below, but the leaves are very different.

Shining Cranesbill
[again]

Shining vs. Dovesfoot
Cranesbills

I really like this one; you get the flower comparison and the leaves in the background. [I won't say how long it took to find behaving plants..]

Herb Robert vs. Shining Cranesbill

Typical comparative flower sizes; HR is a big one! [Relatively]

And again!
[HR variation]

'HR flowers are big'.. Except when they're not..! And the leaves/stems aren't always obviously reddish, either. Naughty plants.

Not a geranium spp., but similar-shaped pinkies;

Red Campion

Honesty

[This should have been the bit where I put in a geranium that doesn't have pinkie flowers, as I found Sea Storksbill at the Nose this year, but I can't find the photo..]

It shall be here at some point!

More flowers - far fewer pinkie ones - shall follow soon.

[Oh stop quaking..!]

Be Seeing You...
