Extra Helpings

Right then, after a short break, blogging may resume at pace. [You never know]
Why more? Well, not only 'cos I said so last time, but also because when you fire off the sunny side of two hundred photos in a day, you feel the need to share a few..

o:)

So, we return to a sunny day in Dorset...

Giant's Hill
[yes, there]
I can't resist putting up a Duke, even though you've seen this one before;

The Duke

Small Copper.
Very fond of this leaf

Radioactive!
Green Hairstreak.

Dingy Skipper.
Very dark one

Another Dingy

Grizzled Skipper.
I kept calling them 'chequered'...
[you can understand why!]

Brown Argus.
Nice ID shot, right?

Spotted Orchid

Moving on..

The Ridgeway.
Count the tumuli

Dingy Skipper.
Much brighter than at Cerne

Brown Argus

Another, also on Kidney Vetch

Which is the food plant of the
Small Blue

Fresher one

Battered one

Small Blues outnumbered all other butterflies combined, several times over!

Common Blue.
Striking a pose

Columbine

Whitethroat

Right. Time for some serious scenery.

Maiden Castle.
Too big to fit in shot
from less than 5 miles...

So, let's toddle up, shall we?

You've climbed the first rampart!
Oh, there's the second.
After that big ditch.

You're over the second rampart!
Oh..Steeper ditch. Third rampart...

Reverse of the first shot
[Also ::dies::]

So that's the fun way in. There are also two more circuitous though less heart-troubling routes, leading to proper entrances;

The East Gate

Ambling back along the middle rampart

Before plonking down on the outer
[which has the odd Hawthorn]

Sometimes archaeology is subtle;
shifts in slope and crop marks,
sometimes....

Itsa Buzzard!

Corn Bunting.
Showing characteristic 'tail-down' pose

Shades of brown, yes
but hardly drab.

Cowslips and Spotted Orchids.
All over the outer ramparts

Also all about - though harder to spot - were these;

Eyebright sp.

Colour variation / another sp.?
[there's '18 very similar', apparently]

And again?

Germander Speedwell
[Much dinkier than at Exminster]

Ok, I think that's gratuitous enough a display.

:)

Be Seeing You...
