With the relaxation of the Rules, it was finally possible to go out for a toddle away from the Patch with the Folks at the weekend, and even better getting Sister The Even Younger to meet us out there and tag along in a socially distanced sort of way. :D
Now, there are all sorts of Rules, and one is very firm about the location of certain birds which could theoretically though in no way can be assumed to be breeding vaguely near places you might be. So I definitely won't be saying anything about anything like that, whatever that is or indeed they are or are not.
[Wasn't that a fun?]
::Several deep breaths::
We had an amble about Yarner, saw no Pied Flies [or heard any for that matter], but did see some nice things and I even got some photos! ::Gasp::
It was far less cold than might be expected and also sunny. We managed to avoid the hordes and the ponies, which was a relief in several ways [Her Horribleness could only give the odd desultory bark at smells. Tragic. ]
We were even able to stop and sit about with rations for long enough for birds to come to us [Joy]
Right, hitting it;
Redpoll!
Another!
Lovely group of at least 15, heard well before they came into view and ignored us wonderfully as they ravaged the poor catkins. :)
Marsh Tit
One of two which worked their way up and past us as we sat. Happy happy.
Willow Warbler
[honest]
Ground Beetle sp.
["Start the plane!"]
In a scene reminiscent of the opening of Raiders, this poor thing was fleeing across the track, pursued by a horde of Wood Ants!
And finally;
The promise of what's to come.
Bilberry flowers.
Oh it was lovely. Lovely to be out. Lovely to be with family. Lovely to be at Yarner again.
Lovely to see new things. Lovely to- ok, ok, I'm stopping.
Be Seeing You...
