Off For A Nice Stroll

A sunny bank holiday weekend - especially the August one - is generally viewed with suspicion, if not seen as a downright Sign of the Apocalypse.

Defying that, I went for a toddle up on t' Moor with the Folks and that Little Black Dog of theirs. It was mostly sunny and frequently rather warm, but aside from a rather protracted process for finding an afternoon coffee stop site [the LBD having that endearing tendency of hers to go off like a bark mine if she sees anything four-legged moving. Or hears it go 'Baa'...]

We took a route we once intended to take but got kiboshed by the weather. You may recall we ended up at Meeth in the rain, horseflies, and Wood Whites. [Despite the former and especially despite the middle, it was quite nice. In parts. Good waterproofs helped. :) ]

Anyways, this time we got there and ambled up from the Dartmoor In moorgate, over and up the Lyd valley, before spiralling up Arms Tor, for lunch, then nipping up to Great Links, before eventually finding a spot by the Lyd for afternoonses. About 12km - so easy going, but you don't want route marches in that weather.

Some scenery;

Arms and Brat Tors

Wryneck pose!
[Zoomed Mipit from first photo - it's in there!]

Stonechat poses!

Beautiful Demoiselle female

The only poser - Common Hawkers and Golden-rings were too active in the heat - as were passing Painted Lady and a Clouded Yellow [that far inland!].

Big old Egghead Mottlegill

I think this is a Waxcap

Could it be The Deceiver again??

Despite the heat - periodically abated by much-appreciated passing clouds - and the very naughty sheep [who had placed themselves with seeming great care to be as inconvenient as possible] it wasn't a bad day at all. Ambling and admiring the views, which are great from over there [even though it was a bit hazy], rather than yomping and nothing wrong about that.

Be Seeing You...
