Only the cover
Wildguides always do good 'uns, though often a little slim [but appropriate for the 'field' bit of field guides]. This is anything but, being a huge chunk of a thing, which it needs to be as it's stuffed with info.
Not just [incredibly] useful for vismiggers [and audiomiggers, too] but for anyone interested in identifying passerines. It's just as good for birds up close and personal on or near the ground. It has the side by side comparisons of birds all the other guides should have but don't [all the buntings side on, on one page, for example?]. Also relative sizes and shapes, overhead silhouettes [like in the old collins guide] and a link to actual calls*, which are all so useful.
I'd show you a couple, but they are very specific about threatening legal action over any reproduction, even for review [which is often an exception], so I'll refrain. I'm sure online retailers will have look inside options..?
Indeed, a second book covering 'everything else' in the same manner would be a certain buy for me.
Needless to say, I have no connection, received no incentives, etc. etc.
Right, that's that done with.
A proper post will turn up at some point.
Be Seeing You...
[[* Which I can't use, not having a smartphone [cheers for the inclusivity], but apparently it's very good.... ]]
